About EMYA

Hello, my name is ENYA, I am about 4 yrs. Old, weight about 42 lbs, I am microchipped, spayed and up to date with shots. My breed is a mix of Australian shepherd and Samoyed and I am fostered by the Founder of AnimalDefense Rescue.org [ADR.org] on Orcas Island, WA. I was rescued from a 'hoarding case' in CA where about thirty dogs looking like me were seized. I still have long ways to go so I would not thrive with Novice dog owners. My new friends here on Orcas Island (dogs and cats) have helped me, and I love to be with other dogs. I do know my pack, but to get to know a human will take time and while I have made huge progress , I still have to feel more comfortable with leashes or harness. ADR.org's founder is applying what is called the: 'People are good' method. The goal with this technique is to show me that humans are a valuable resource and directly provide for my needs. When using this method, some feral/shy dogs gain confidence and progress well with other dogs present; others progress more slowly with other dogs around because they have canine support and a 'buffer' to distance them from the scary humans. For myself - both applied at the beginning, and I still have ways to go. To get established in a new home, the future owner would need to be able to offer some of these criteria: -being an experienced dog owner that will go all the way with me: an additional dog or dogs will help me settling in for sure. - offer patience, but as the same time displaying authority without scaring me off so that I feel safe - a home without young children - a fenced property (ENYA is not a city dog and/or apartment/high rise dog) If you are interested to see videos, and learn more about me, and meet me, first step would be to send an email to: [email protected], add some photos and tell me a little bit about you.
