Ben is in foster in Mead, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs. * You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/ben-2/. You can apply for our wonderful dogs at https://www.milehighcanine.org/adopt/adoption-application/. This is Ben! Ben is a 10-ish year old, Yorkie mix that weigh about 12 lbs. Ben is, ummm, well, he's an a$$hole. Ben first joined MHCR a couple months ago as my foster and I was convinced I could fix him. He had been with another rescue and had moved between foster homes, trainers, and boarding. He had a laundry list of medical issues including a heart murmur, rotten teeth, cherry eye, to name a few. Surely after he's feeling better with pearly whites he'll love me, right? WRONG! Ok, maybe once he settles in after a few weeks he'll come around, right? WRONG! The only time Ben is happy to see me is when I'm making him food or taking him for a walk or a ride. He LOVES walks and car rides. Lives for them. He adores my teenage kids and husband when they come home from school and work. He gets so excited to see them and he dances and twirls. It's so dang cute you just want to bend right over and squish his adorable face. DON'T! You must resist the urge. Ben doesn't want to be touched. He'll allow you to leash him and for the first few weeks it's advised that he drags one around hooked to his harness. Once every couple of days I can scratch him on the head, especially in the morning when he's excited to go outside. I get ONE chance. If I flinch, he nails me. Ben is crate trained, but he must be covered while in his crate. He gets very angry if he's being looked at while he's in there. He asks to go outside. He walks great on a leash and would enjoy daily walks in his new home. Ben lives with a variety of dogs. He does fine with all of them, but he really could do without the puppy. Ben is NOT a lap dog. He is not a source of companionship. Ben is for someone who wants to provide a nice life for a totally unadoptable dog. To go to the vet he will need a muzzle. To be groomed, he needs a muzzle. To be muzzled he needs bite gloves. Don't adopt him thinking you will love this out of him. A series of humans in his past undoubtedly made him this way and now it's just how he's wired. Please do not apply if you have young children unless you don't particularly like them. Ben is not an aggressive dog, per se. We've lived very peacefully together for the last couple of months as long as I keep my hands (and feet) to myself.
