About Lucky

This sweet, energetic Aussie mix was found along with what might be his dad, at an abandoned house close to where we live. We've taken them both in for their safety and are looking for a perfect fit that will include Lucky as a family member. Though we have 2 acres of fenced yard for him to romp on, we have absolutely no shade trees, which makes summers in East Texas very hot. Lucky craves attention, and his calling is to be a working dog with a task. I can picture him being his happiest on a place with property with wide open spaces that are safe, maybe a farm or ranch, where he can see what is going on around him. He is so willing to please and loves being wherever you are and wants to be a part of your activities. He would do well with another friendly dog because he is very social and loves company. He is currently bonded to his possible 'dad,' and takes many cues from him, but 'dad' doesn't always like his high energy playfulness, as he is a bit older. It is possible, given the right circumstances, that both could be adopted together, if I am assured they would always be with one another, but Lucky would adjust easily in a loving environment as long as he is a part of the daily life of his owner. He has shown no aggression, and has mostly been around adults. He has been occasionally around children 5-7 years of age with supervision, and his biggest desire was to jump, run and play. Because he is 47 pounds and strong, and when excited has unbridled energy, he must be monitored if there are younger children around. However, he is so willing to please that he would be easy to train. We are working on common courtesies and manners, and he gets a treat each time he sits on command. We still have a ways to go, but he is willing to go there, which means he is teachable. Lucky goes for walks at the park as time permits, on a leash, doesn't seem to mind riding in the truck, and loves to play tug of war. This is not a dog to crate, and is not meant to be unmonitored inside at this stage of his life. He needs a place with property and the companionship and direction of his owner. He would love to have a passive buddy that is friendly and can take rough play, to romp with that is close to his size. Given that he is is submissive, he should not be around another aggressive dog, as this would break his spirit. He is fully vaccinated, is on heart worm and flea preventative, and has tested negative for heart worms. He is a healthy boy. Our vet predicts him to be 1-2 years of age. The rehoming fee will be donated to a dog rescue league in the memory of our dog-loving family member who passed away this past year.
