About Logan

Adoption Fee: $25
Australian Shepherd mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Logan was a rescue in Las Vegas in late 2020. He was found abandoned in Logandale. We believe his original owner was a large male who was not kind to him. I have done a lot of training with him. He loves learning and can walk on a leash and do a few simple commands. He wants to please and thrives on praise. He is house trained and usually not destructive. He is usually very calm and sweet. But he does become very anxious/protective of his family when on walks and anytime guests come to our home. He alerts me anytime someone walks past our home. He growls at and needs to sniff all guests and has on occasion attempted to 'nip' ankles if guests move around while he's meeting them. But after a few min, he becomes ok and is calm and friendly again. On walks he reacts to other dogs by barking or growling and sometimes lunging. I often walk him at night so there are less people/dogs to distract him. We have 2 children starting school and making friends in our new home in Maine. It has become incredibly difficult to have the kids friends to the house (kids running in and out of the house) or even neighbors or friends over. We love Logan very much, but cannot have him 'nipping' or growling at everyone. We cannot have a fenced in yard, so he has no dedicated area to run off leash. We believe a less busy home where he is an only dog, owner works from home or is retired, has less frequent guests, and has a large fenced in yard would be a better fit for him. He really is a wonderful companion! He would do great with agility training and likely even communication button training. He does get along with a family members 2 large chocolate labs that he has known since we adopted him, but no other dogs so far. He does great with cats. He is incredibly gentle with his 2 kids. He burps frequently, which is always great comic relief. He does not do well with kennels(he panicked and bent bars and damaged his teeth). Until he is comfortable and used to a new surrounding, he does have separation anxiety when left home alone. We are heartbroken to be re-homing him, but have decided as a family it would be best for Logan to have a different home.
