About Duke

Australian Cattle Dog
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Duke and Trucker are Aussie mix brothers that just turned 1yr old on 11/3/22. They are making their way here all the way from California. They were dumped on a farmer's land by the ranch hand who was fired and the farmer threatened to shoot them. A friend of the ranch hand went and scooped them up in October and thought the shelter would find them a good home. Upon arrival, she was told they are considered 'owner surrenders' and would be euthanized in 3 days. Needless to say, that was not an option. Fast forward to now, the foster fell in love and didn't want to let them go until 2 weeks ago when she knew her small condo was not ideal for them. We quickly reached out to the Many Paws Volunteer Transport Team who knew we had to act quickly. Their amazing team quickly put together a 10-day relay transport for these boys who started their cross-country journey last Saturday. We immediately reached out to local rescues asking for help as we don't have a following for Aussies. The boys have a backup plan to head to another rescue at their facility but we would love to find their home right here in the DMV. If you know any Aussie lovers, please send them our way! Trucker is a male, 50-55lb, short-haired Merle with 2 stunning blue eyes. He is the submissive and shy one of the two but quickly warms up. He loves everyone and all dogs. He craves love and will be your best friend. Cats unknown. Duke (long-haired) is a male 45-50lbs and super sweet to all humans. He wants to give everyone a face wash Duke unfortunately is reactive to dogs but we are unsure to what extent. From all of the transport volunteers, they have said it seems as though he's the big brother and tries to be protective which is why we have also decided they are best adopted separately. He will be in a home for a week where he will be evaluated to determine if the behavior was brought on by his past conditions. Despite his reactivity, Duke did live with a senior dachshund and did great so we are hopeful. He also has so much love to give and will be a wonderful addition. These boys are so deserving of love and attention. If you are interested in fostering or adopting, please fill out an app online at https://www.foreverchangedar.org/adopt-a-pet
