About Shadow

Adoption Fee: 50.00
Lab / Collie
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Shadow is a loving dog. He is high energy. He is currently 10 months old. He grew up in a multi-dog home. He would do best with another dog for companionship and to play with. He would be happy living inside with his owner, but even better to live inside and also have a fenced in backyard that he can run around and play in. If he had proper shelter outside and another dog outside (not another dog that he was not allowed to have contact with, but one he definitely could be around physically, and play with some) he could probably handle living in a nice fended in backyard. But not just chained up or left on a tie out all the time. He loves to play with other dogs that also like to play, of course. He wants another dog to play with so much that he tries to play with humans like they are dogs. He is not vicious in any way whatsoever. Just a high energy dog that needs some training. He might try to jump up on you, so he is still working on the command 'off'. He wants you to chase him so he might come up to you and try to get your attention that way - if he had another dog, I don't think he would do this at all. He is very cute and is a Heinz 57 - we are pretty sure he has some Labrador Retriever in him and possibly some type of Spitz breed dog, but there are probably a few other breeds mixed in there. When originally adopted they said he was a Lab Mix. He has a curled tail. He loves to retrieve! He loves Bully Stick rawhide chewies and Kongs, loves balls, and tearing up stuffed toys on occasion. He likes to hike. He is working on his leash skills and getting better. He is pretty much house trained. We take him out often during the day to pee or poop; (father is able to cause he is around), but he is able to go 7 or sometimes even 8 hours usually at night. He will stay in a crate for several hours if he is very tired to sleep, or if you give him a Kong that is frozen with yogurt or peanut butter or Pumpkin filling. He will sometimes go in his crate and just chill, but he does like to be close to people or another dog if he can. He had his sister with him for the first 6 months of his life, and for the first 5 months of his life he had several dogs with him. So, he is lonely without another dog's company. He adores other dogs, but they would of course need to be at least somewhat playful dogs and I believe he would probably not be as high energy if he had another dog because it would comfort him, and he would eventually calm down a little. He is very cute. He enjoys training sessions when he can get them. He loves treats of course and is treat motivated. He does need someone who is loving but firm, but with another dog I think the other dog would help him to adjust and he would follow their lead. I think he would do well with a dog his age or one that is slightly older than him - up to three years old would be great, but he could get along with dogs even older. He weighs a little over 60 pounds right now. He likes puzzle toys - that you dig to pull out little stuffed toys. He likes to be mentally stimulated. He would love a backyard that he could do some frisbee work in. He is athletic. Because he is so high energy, we do not recommend he live with young children or elderly people at this time. Adults or teens would be fine. He is anxious without another dog and doesn't know what to do with his energy sometimes. He just wants to play so badly. Another dog would give him stability and confidence and make him happy. Otherwise, he just needs some mental stimulation and an outlet for his energy. And some training. Again, with another dog to show him the ropes, he would follow their lead and I think he would be less energetic. We just cannot afford two dogs at this time or to build a fence or doggy daycare or training. If he had any one of those four things he would be just fine. We love him and hate to part with him but we do not have the time or energy for him and like I said, even if we did have the time or energy, we do not have the money for doggy daycare or training or a fence or a second dog. All he needs is one of those things!
