About Vela

Vela is an excitable, communicative dog who has lived rurally for more of her life than not, and she needs a new forever-home with those who can spend lots of time with her, have lots of space for her to run and explore, and walk her multiple times per day. She is a 'velcro-dog' and wants to go everywhere with you, including on car rides. She is not afraid to give a small woof to let you know that she needs to go outside, that it's time to eat, or that she lost a toy under furniture. She will be 7 years old in March. Fetching balls is her favorite thing in life. She is very smart and knows 20-30 commands. Unfortunately, she pulls on her leash when walking, and she barks at new people and dogs (reactive.) Once she calms down, she does fine with other neutered/spayed dogs and the one cat she has lived with. She needs to eat alone to feel safe, as she will growl at others who come near her food. She gets excited and sometimes jumps, so a home with no small children would be best. She has no bite history. She was spayed at around 1 year old to preserve her hormonal development (to prevent bone/joint issues later on in life that can happen with her breed) and so she gets nervous at vet visits (wants to leave the building/pees during check up.) Rabies vaccinations are up-to-date. She has separation anxiety with me. She isn't destructive except with toys you may give her. I believe someone who has experience training dogs would be the best fit for Vela. Re-homing to a new forever home as I can no longer provide for her due to health and financial issues.
