About Shiraz

Adoption Fee: $300
German Shepherd / Siberian Husky
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

DOB: June 23rd, 2022. Probably Siberian husky and German shepherd mix with some other things. Shiraz has a bone deep sweetness and openness to him that touches you whenever you spend time with him. He is affectionate, likes to be petted, and makes friends everywhere. He was an unusually calm and quiet baby but as he has been growing bigger, he has also been growing more busy and mischievous like a normal puppy. Shiraz will often follow you around to keep you company whether by observing, participating, or snoozing nearby. But he is also perfectly able to entertain himself for a while though as with any puppy you don't want to leave him completely unattended, or an innocent slipper or shoe may be victimized. Shiraz loves to go to places where he can explore off leash such as on trails, parks, or camping. He is quite good at following along and coming when called, his age considered, but it is of course something that needs continued work. He is smart and trains pretty easily if you are calm and consistent. He is in the beginning phase of leash training; he doesn't pull much but he doesn't have a natural disposition for walking in a straight line! He enjoys meeting up with his siblings or trusted friends to roughhouse or go investigating. Shiraz is potty trained and used to a doggie door. He is allowed to move around the house at night. While home alone he is either free in part of the house and backyard or crated. His is not a fan of being crated but getting better about it. Open crates are fine and often used for naps. Naturally he is still somewhat immature and has accidents if blocked from going outside for too long and he does the occasional excited urination but less and less so. Shiraz and his siblings lived with adult dogs of various sizes since birth and learned to respect them though he can be rather persistent about trying to make them play with him. He is quite good when meeting new dogs. Once Shiraz is through adolescence, he would probably make a good therapy dog. Children: Loves children and enjoys it when they sit down and pet him. He doesn't have a good sense of his own size and strength so he can be a bit overwhelming to small kids at first. Strangers: Fine with strangers and usually loves getting attention from them. At the park or on walks he tries to meet almost everyone and will often approach them before the dogs. Cats: Fine; lived with cats in previous foster home and occasionally meets the garage/outdoor cat in his current foster home. Other animals: Has not been around other animals besides dogs and cats. Car: Usually fine and loves going places. Medical: The vet has diagnosed Shiraz with a genetic, degenerative eye disease that causes some fogginess to his vision, especially on one eye. Most of the time it takes careful observation to tell, though. We noticed he can be a little slower navigating uneven/unknown terrain than his siblings. It is a condition that will worsen over time but how quickly depends on factors such as quality of diet. Interested in meeting Shiraz?
