About Sascha

Adoption Fee: $200
Belgian Malinois / German Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

This decision has not come easy, and I don't want to do this but it's for the safety of my kids. Sascha is a beautiful 2-year-old Malinois GSD cross. I got her as an older puppy, and she came to me with resource-guarding issues. Through training, I have worked a lot of that out however there are still some issues. Let me say the bad first; she is not to be trusted around little kids! Must not have kids in a potential new home! I have four kids ranging from 9 years down to 5 months old. She has bitten my three older kids and now just snapped at my five-month-old because he waved his arm toward her, while in his bouncer. I have always watched my kids like a hawk around her, and she has never been mistreated by children; the person I got her from didn't have kids, so I'm not sure why she has this hair-trigger reaction to them. This is an exercised and trained dog; I have had help from professionals to help build a positive relationship with my kids, but I can not trust her around them, and I can't in good conscience keep her in a crate all day to keep them separated, and leaving her outside is not an option. The good, Sascha does excellent on a leash (halti lead) and has been on many hikes. Since Ive had her as an older puppy, I have put a lot of effort into socializing her with all kinds of people and regular trips to dog parks. She is electric collar trained, knows basic commands well, and is VERY sensitive. She does start shaking when we go on hikes and dog parks at first but after a little bit she settles down (also does this during baths, there has been no trauma, she just has always done this). She is housebroken and crate trained as well. She loves the ball to be thrown for her and is trained to walk on the treadmill to burn excessive energy (on days the weather sucks). She is used to someone being home with her most of the time and typically goes most places with the family and rides well in the car, at least short distances. She plays well at dog parks but has shown aggression toward dogs and delivery people at our house. She is a medium-energy dog and not high maintenance like a typical malinois. The perfect home would have experience in similar breeds. Someone that likes to hike and do walks regularly, kid free and needs a companion, or possibly wants to train for search and rescue? She has done great with my cat (he was older and very patient). I would say better to be in an only-dog or no other female dog home. She's highly dominant, especially towards other females and other dominant dogs. At dog parks, she constantly seeks out little dogs to play with. Please email me if you are seriously interested and you have any questions or would like to meet her.
