About Sky

Adoption Fee: $325
Australian Shepherd mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Happy Guy Sky! Imagine being greeted everyday by Sky's sweet, 'it's a treat to meet you' darling doggy grin! Sky boy's an Aussie mix-approximately 8 month old, 45 pounds. This guy is a delightful dance mixtape of energy, goofiness, and just a 'happy, happy, happy dog...happy guy'. Sweet Sky's as open and big hearted as you'd expect the boy with that winsome grin to be. Sky was saved from a near miss tragic end by an advocate taken with his big loveable, goofy, trusting puppy heart What was Sky's transgression that nearly earned him an end sentence? Sky's deaf.%BD%A0 He was 'returned' to the shelter by a family who didn't understand a deaf dog-toddler dynamic. Deaf doggos are going to be startled by a quick moving tyke they can't see coming. So we will find this plucky pup with the indomitable grin the perfect place. Sky is a happy heart who adores pretty much everyone and everything! People? Yep! Food? Yes, please! Car rides? Let's go! Toys (squeaky, too)? 100%! Balls? Of course, fetch is super-duper funtastic! Walkies? Playing outside in the dirt? Other dogs? Yes, yes, YES! Everyone is a buddy waiting to be met. Everything is a joy to be discovered...or uncovered. Oh wait-EXCEPT baths! Sky is NOT fond of those. Foster Mom uses a licky mat to distract treat motivated Sky when he is forced to endure a pesky bath. Like most puppies, Sky is learning what is appropriate to chew on.%BD%A0 Just give the energetic, spirited fun guy lots of toys to play with and Aussie style things to do. Our fluffy fella is friendly with the Foster feline. His people will want to monitor the furballs at first- since Sky likes to play and can't hear feline warnings: 'Back off Pooch.'.%BD%A0 Foster Mom uses a soft leader for walks. He's also a good boy in the crate when she works a few hours. Sky knows his house manners. Any pup in a new home will need time to adjust. Sky is Aussie smart. He responds to signs for 'come' and 'sit' and learning 'down' and 'wait'. Those treats are a great training tool to help a responsive laddie focus. Actually, stinker Sky thinks 'anytime', is always a good time to eat. (Slow feeder is a must for this eager eater.) Sky learns fast! He comes in at night when Foster Mom flashes the light off and on. Sky has some typical deafie anxiety from lack o-can bark at shadows, or be startled by things he doesn't expect. A soft tap on Sky's head is the best way to wake him. Sky is eager for activities to help him focus mental and physical energy, guidance to build confidence and one on one time to give his hopeful nature and high-spiritedness. Being with his People is really Sky's happy place and firm foundation. If he awakes from a nap and doesn't see them, Sky will search, calling out until they are reunited. He's a big hearted, big brained, bit bumbly, bubbly boy looking for his Forever Happy Place. Sky would be a match for herding breed experienced on the move, going-and-doing Folks. Deaf dog knowledge is also helpful. Mental and physical enrichment are essential for Sky lad. Since Sky's an enthusiastic baby, and tumble playful, he'd probably be a better companion for dog-smart kiddos 9 and up. Sky would enjoy having another similar breed buddy (or two!) with an easygoing temperament he can learn all the doggy stuff from. Felines are fine, as long as they're dog savvy. Sky would likely need a fenced in area-exceptions might be made for folks who have lots of experience and continually monitor their dogs. Training is a commitment every dog lover makes and it is especially important for a herding breed, exuberant, deaf puppy. It isn't necessarily harder to teach a hearing impaired pup, but it requires consistency, patience with yourself, and your pooch. The reward-well. Sky's the limit! Multiresidential buildings (such as apartments) are not a good fit for this boy. The best adopters give their new family member time to decompress and grow familiar with a new environment and routine. An adopter commits to slow and monitored introductions with new people, especially children, other animals, and new places. If you are ready to experience ALL that comes with a puppy, please apply. Sky bounded up to say, 'Heya hi there! Let's have a contest- who can make the other the most happy? Betcha I'll win!' Ready for unlimited happiness with Sky?
