About Shadow

Lab
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

We got a desperate email from Milly who adopted Shadow from a rescue that has stopped responding to her when she wanted to surrender him back to them. Shelters have told her that he would likely be put down which is what they are trying to avoid: 'A little history. We adopted a black mixed lab 2 years ago, Shadow. My family absolutely loves him and this is a very sad and devastating process. Unfortunately, I am at a loss on how to handle him and what else to do with him. My family has finally come to accept that he needs a new family that might fit his needs better. Shadow is a wonderful loving crazy puppy. He is really good with kids and loves playing with them. My 8 yr, 3yr and Shadow play chase in the house and it's so much fun. He is a big dog and does not realize he can be rough. So, accidents like scratches or jumping over happen here and there. Shadow is potty trained and will sit by the door ringing the bells to let you know he wants/needs to go out. Unfortunately, he seems to have anxiety problems which we have not completely figured out and he tends to have accidents like peeing or pooping inside the house. At first it wasn't too bad, but about 6 months, he started pooping and peeing in my kids/guest's beds. Where he has done it too many times now that I had to throw everything away due to the smell and him coming back to do it any chance he gets. He does not like crates but needs it if you are not in the house as he will pee, poop, and eat any food left around (Ie. Pizza left in the box on the kitchen table or digs through your trash if it's not covered). He tends to chew anything left on the floor including flip flops. My husband is against crates but we got one as a suggestion from a trainer. At first, my husband refused to use it and left Shadow in his office with the door closed, he had scratched and dug through the wall, door and door frame to the point that it needed to be completely replaced. Now that we leave him in the crate, he has also broken it. So my husband was looking into an anxiety crate for him. We do not leave him in the crate for too long or often. We both work from home and are at home most of the time. Only leave if we have family events or need to go to the store. He is very friendly and really good with people but jumps out of excitement. Loves licking and kissing if you let him. Again, he is a good sweet dog but has many issues we do not know how to fix. We have tried a couple of trainers and things are not getting better, only worse. Dog name: Shadow Gender: Male Age/Birthday: 2 1/2 years / May 11th, 2020 Weight: Aprox 65 lbs Breed: mix black lab (rescued) Heartworm status: treated Medications/ Injuries: None Good with people? LOVES people. He is very friendly, and will jump out of excitement. Loves the attention and will jump to lick and kiss you if you let him. He's really good around kids and loves playing with them. The only problem is that he doesn't realize he's a big dog and can be rough causing scratches by accident. Dogs? He loves playing with other dogs. Cats? Don't know. Other animals? Don't know House trained? He's house trained and will let you know when he needs to go out. But has peed and pooped in the house. Lately he has pooped in beds, and around the house. We do not know what is causing this issue but think it might be some sort of anxiety. Crate trained? Does not like it. Suggest looking into an anxiety crate as he broke the plastic one we had for him. Whines and digs trying to get out. I would crate him when not home as he can have accidents in the house. Has also eaten food left at the table (ie. Pizza, chocolates, etc) Energy level: High level. He loves retrieving balls and running, and could go at that forever! He loves running around our pool and does many laps before he finally sits and rest. Loves taking sun baths. Travel well? He gets very anxious in the car. Shakes and drools. Favorite toy/activity: Balls and running. He loves to retrieve and run around. If you throw a ball, He brings it back to you for another round. He also enjoys running in circles after his own tale. It's the cutest/funniest thing ever. He needs chewing toys. Contact Milly at [email protected] or 443-803-4828 if you are interested in Shadow.
