About Abby

Adoption Fee: $425
Chihuahua / Dachshund
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Meet Abby ! Abby is a Chiweenie 8 lb female puppy who came to our rescue after being in a cold shelter all alone. Abby is snuggly and loves to cuddle on the couch. She loves going outside and running in a fenced in yard and wants her friends to chase her. Abby loves treats and can go chase a toy if you throw it down the hall and will bring it back or get it pretty close to you ! Abby has been with our rescue since last Spring, she came from Texas, got vaccinated and spayed. We were ready to post her for adoption when one day she started walking like she was wobbly drunk and almost crashed into the wall. We immediately felt like she must have had an inner ear infection or injury so we took her to our vet the same night. Abby wasn't walking well and we had radiographs done and bloodwork. While waiting for the results to come back, Abby stopped being able to walk. She stayed in her crate and physically couldn't walk. We ran many tests and assessments and Abby made no progress on medication. We ruled out many things like IVDD and tick borne illnesses early on. Abby was then referred to a neurologist who our vet was in communication with the whole time. We scheduled an appointment and has to wait a month for her to have an appointment at Eclipse Vet. She had her consult and we scheduled an MRI for Abby. Abby was put on a steroid and antibiotic and slowly she started to move again. Her MRI showed no true injury and no real illness was ever determined. We did PT at home with Abby daily and even found an incredible foster for her when we went on vacation in the summer. At the foster home, Abby played with one of our alumni dogs and suddenly walking became fun again. Abby wanted to keep up with her bestie dog friend and she made so much progress in a short time. Abby is cleared to be adopted and has no significant medical issues. She stands with legs bent slightly but can run and walk on her own. She is not on any medications other than preventatives for heartworm and flea/tick. Since Abby has went through quite the ordeal, we are looking for a specific, understanding home where she would be safe. It's taken months of progress, trial and error and we wouldn't want that to be jeopardized. With that being said, no small children or overly rough dogs that wrestle or play wildly. Abby can potty outside or on wee wee pads, she does miss from time to time. Her bark is loud but she is quiet most of the day and her heart is huge ! We have invested a lot of time and care in Abby and expect her future family to do the same. We need her potential adopters to understand Abby has limits and pushed too much she gets tired and can't go further. We have not had her walk on leash or do stairs but she is certainly light enough to carry if needed. Abby is a bit different than most puppies but she is an amazing funny and happy girl !
