Name: Texan Age: 11 years Breed: Golden and Labrador Retriever mix, large #50 Sex: Female, spayed Location: Harris County, Texas Vet Information: Texan is spayed and up to date on her vaccinations. She is not microchipped. She tested negative for heartworm in June of 2022 and is on preventatives. Texan is diabetic, which is most likely the reason that she has completely lost her vision. She requires injections of Vetsulin twice daily. Otherwise, she is in great health, has a healthy appetite, and never turns down a bowl of food! Currently, Texan is eating Diamond Naturals lamb meal and rice which works well for her. Owner Report: Texan was rehomed to her current owners about six months ago. In both cases, the owners feel that they don't have enough time to spend with her so that she gets the exercise and play time that she deserves. They'd like to find her a good, loving home. Outgoing and fun, Texan is sweet and loves attention! She's an indoor dog with the run of the house. While she is blind, she loves to play with tennis balls, which are her favorites! Texan is house broken and leash trained. Although she's had no formal training, she knows cues for Sit, Stay, Shake, Jump, and, sometimes, Roll Over. She enjoys a treat for a reward and is very treat motivated. Texan is very smart and has adapted well to being blind. Her owners can tell her 'Come on', and she will come walking towards them. If she's about to run into something, they can say 'No', and she turns directions. She knows they are trying to help her. Texan is good with men, women, and teenagers. She gets along with male and female dogs and is good with cats. Texan currently lives with two cats, and she has done well when meeting the dogs of other family members. Texan can be possessive with bones or rawhide, but her owners just take them away if other dogs are over, and there are no issues. She's never shown aggression to anyone or another animal and has no bite history. Her owners think that she would be able to adapt well to a new situation and new surroundings. They think that she'll make someone very happy because of how sweet she is! Her Owners Would Like You To Know: 'We think Texan would make someone very happy; she would make a great companion. She loves being petted and loves tennis balls. We just want to find her a forever home so that she gets the attention and play time she deserves!' Does anyone have room for sweet, fun loving Texan? **Owner Surrender Disclaimer: These are blind and visually impaired dogs who are living in homes, but their owners can no longer keep them.
