About DK

We've had DK since the end of September 2022. A family in Olympia had to rehome him because their other dog didn't get along with him. They were his first family. He's about 19 months. He has all sorts of puppy habits, including falling in love easily. He chews up (and occasionally swallows, and will sometimes bury) plushies, socks, plants, irrigation systems, and things that are edible, too. He loves his people. Anyone in my household can put their face right up to his and he'll give you a baleful look and a lick. He is very toddler tolerant, but forgets that he is huge and will occasionally barrel through when he's excited. When he is not wound up, he is very chill. He'll sleep on the bed, or on someone's lap. Even in the daytime, when he could be running around outside. He thinks he's a little baby, and wants cuddles and love. He absolutely loves to jump up. He knows how to sit and shake paw, and is VERY treat-driven. He has no problem putting his head on the table and eating your food for you. Or sneaking behind the couch to get at your plate when you're not looking. He likes to stay just out of your reach if he escapes from the gated area. We learned that if you make eye contact, and then walk back inside, he'll come back. Otherwise, he is very difficult to catch. He barks at strangers, and will nip at strangers. He bit someone in the face (she said she was fine, and had a small cut by her nose that bled) when he was on the leash and Devlin was acting all nervous. He is very protective of his family unit. He's moved in tensely when a little friend was rocking my baby too hard. I intervened and nothing came of it. He loves to play fetch, and has troubles putting the ball (or object) down, but he's been improving on that. He chases the laser light like a cat. It is very easy to exercise him. He will chew through a leash, though, and pulls while on walks. He's recently been having skin issues, and he's on a pill and shower regimen to try and address it. But he'll chew himself until he bleeds. He'll stop if you tell him to stop. He is a shedder, as well. He chases cats, but seems to be afraid of them when he gets close and they hiss at him. We've been working on it, and he can stand in the room with the cat without barking if you hold his harness, but not if he's on a leash. He's afraid of being sprayed with water (but not afraid of baths/showers). He's up to date on his shots and fixed. His previous owner reported that he had a tumor on his leg that was removed. Pur vet didn't see record of it when they got his last vets information, so I don't have further details on it. Nor of the ear infections that we were told he sometimes has. He's a good boy.
