Arf! Arf, everyone! I'm Duchess, a friendly, active, people-loving, 11-pound apricot and white wire-coated Portuguese Podengo pequeno/ Norwich Terrier mix gal who was born in December 2019. Don't you love the way that I hold up my stubby tail like a flagpole? I get along great with humans of all ages -- adults as well as kids -- and other dogs, but I prefer to hang out with humans instead of dogs. I'm homeless because I was found in a vacant house with my three pups. 'Pequenos' are the smallest of the three sizes of Portuguese Podengos. We're lively, playful, alert, highly intelligent, and independent hounds who make excellent family companions. We're tolerant, compliant, and eager to please our family. Loyal, easy-going, and loving, we make strong bonds with our family but can sometimes be suspicious of strangers. We learn new things very fast but at the same time cannot always be easy to train. I hope there's someone in your family who wants to be my playmate! We're funny dogs who love to play - especially a good game of chase - but can also easily entertain ourselves with toys. We're always ready for action and excel in dog sports like agility and fly-ball. We need plenty of daily exercise to keep us both physically and mentally stimulated. If our exercise needs are not met and we're bored, we can be destructive. We pequenos were bred to search for rabbits in holes and rocks, so watch out for other small household pets because the urge to chase little, furry critters has never left us.
