Meet Jersey Mikes !! **UPDATED** He was one of the twelve dogs we took from a very bad hoarding situation. Sadly 16 dogs from that same home died despite the shelters best efforts to save them. These guys have had a tough life but they are doing so well and really soaking up all the love and attention in their foster homes. Despite all they've been through they are so happy and loving. Jersey Mike is a male, 3 yr old, Jack Russell mix. He weighs 13 pounds. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on his vaccines. He is Heartworm negative. He had a hard time with regaining weight and the vet discovered that he needs the help of a digestive enzyme to absorb the nutrition from his food. This is a very simple fix and he will lead a completely normal life health wise but he may need the digestive aid for life. He has a prescription powder that goes on his meals twice a day. The monthly cost for the powder is on average $20-$25. He will come with a large bottle of the medicine to get you started that should last 4-5 months. Jersey Mike loves people and loves attention. He is more outgoing, very sweet and playful. He likes toys and bones. He's very treat motivated which helps with training. He hates bathes but isn't aggressive about it. He is an angel about nail trims, ear cleaning and even teeth brushing. He has done well with other dogs of all sizes. He also does extremely well with cats. He's met kids as young as 2 years old on outings and done fantastic with them. He would do great with respectful children in the home. He does seem to still have some fear related to men and will bark when they come into the room. He generally pics someone to be his person and becomes their shadow. Jersey Mikes is doing better with potty training but can have some kennel stress and may potty in there, he's had accidents outside of the kennel as well. He is doing great with leash training and does great on car rides. He has a moderate energy level so far, he plays and likes outings but he also loves being snuggled up in your lap. This may change as he becomes more settled. He has not had any issues sharing treats, food or toys with people or other dogs. He has shown some resource guarding of his people from other dogs. This is easily manageable with proper training. He is learning to drop his defenses more each day. Given his background of having to fight for attention and food please understand it may just take him some time to adjust. Jersey mikes is a Velcro dog that bonds quickly and intensely with his family. He will make someone a wonderful new companion. Vet and home checks required. Located in Hampton VA.
