About Mimi

Pit Bull mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

This poor little girl that looks like a poster child for an ASPCA 'donate now' button is Mimi :( Mimi was owner surrendered Friday afternoon, her owners stated she 'has cancer' and wasn't eating. After going through all her information, consulting with the vet clinic they went to, and being examined by the shelters medical team, she is in otherwise good health aside from the external problems visible in her photos. She began getting into scuffles with another dog in the home over food, and recently stopped eating (although based on her near emaciated state she has been getting her meals stolen by other dogs for a while). When she was taken to a vet clinic to see if there were any medical concerns, the family was given an expensive estimate to perform a round of x-rays and tests (which would have been unnecessary if some proper questions were asked), and somehow a piece of paper with a bunch of $$$ on it gave the family the impression she has cancer - but considering the shape she's in, Mimi is one of those rare cases where it was in her best interest to be removed from that prior living situation as soon as possible before she faces further neglect or physical trauma. While this is speculative, her near-emaciated state shows she has not been receiving proper nourishment for some time and could likely have tried to stop other dogs from consuming all the food leaving her with a grumbly tummy... and when the other dog continued to be a species dependent on food for survival they kicked her @ss, and Mimi began to have no interest in fighting for a meal and felt she would survive longer starving to death as opposed to getting mauled over a piece of kibble :| Although she was surrendered for 'being sick' and not eating, she was observed devouring her plate and practically licking it clean when she was taken to a kennel. She was later given a portion of wet dog food a few hours later and gobbled that down as well, so she seems to have no trouble eating when she is given the opportunity to do so. Regardless, Mimi is a very sweet & friendly girl who enjoys spending time with people and has had positive interactions with a few other dogs in the short time she's been at the shelter. So aside from showing external signs of less-than-ideal care, she is overall in good health and just needs a continued proper diet (i.e. be able to eat meals), as well as some time for her wounds to heal up a bit.
