About ROCKY

ROCKY is guesstimated to be about four years old and really is a pint-sized bully with some doxie legs and a doxie tail! ROCKY is a diesel guy who is about 40 pounds of pure muscle! ROCKY enjoys being outside and walks surprisingly well on his leash once he runs off all of the energy that he has built up from being 'contained' in his kennel run! Considering the fact that he does not get walked often by the shelter staff, he probably had leash manners at one time but is out of practice at the moment! ROCKY appears house-broken as his kennel run is normally clean for hours on end! He does know some basic commands; however, he would benefit from more obedience training as he likes to play 'alpha' every now and then and try to 'control' his owner by jumping up, pulling on your coat sleeve to get your attention, or grabbing his own leash to try and walk himself! ROCKY has not had much dog-to-dog interaction while at the shelter so it is difficult to tell how he would be living in a home with another dog. When introduced to dogs of his age, he seems to be 'stand offish and guarded' with others and not curious or playful about them. As a result, ROCKY would do best in a home without another dog. The home should be structured and experienced enough to adore this cute boy yet not allow him to think he is the 'boss.' Due to ROCKY's jumping and seldom nipping, he will only be adopted into an adult only home. ROCKY is currently in the Elizabeth Animal Shelter in NJ and cannot remain there much longer as the shelter is small and not conducive to his needs. He truly is regressing more and more each day by sitting in this kennel run for well over two and a half months now.
