About Maverick

Available in Biddeford, Maine - Little Maverick, a 1.5 year old border collie mix, has had a very difficult start in life. He was found as a stray, severely underweight, and having major trust issues with humans. The shelter workers reached out to ASF because they felt Maverick has potential to be a great dog and faithful companion for an experienced herding dog owner. The people he bonds with, he loves a lot and can be very cuddly. But most strangers make him very nervous and anxious. He takes a while to warm up, but once he does he can be very sweet. Because he was starved, he does exhibit serious food aggression. He is neutered and up to date on shots and preventives. Ideally, Maverick needs a home with an experienced herding dog owner who knows how to work with him to build confidence and conquer his understandable insecurities. He needs someone with both the time and patience to let him progress at his own rate and who won't try to rush him. Because of his border collie genes, he needs a ton of exercise, so a large property with a confident buddy dog to run and play with would be needed too. If you can give him the quiet home he needs, Maverick has the potential to be a great dog.
