About Athena

I live in San Francisco and I desperately need to re-home my 3-year-old Alaskan Malamute, Athena. Athena is a purebred female, and I purchased her as a puppy from an accredited breeder in the Sierra Nevadas. She's been one of the best parts of my life for 3 years since before Covid, but my life situation has changed, and I no longer have the time or resources to care for her as she needs. Athena is an incredible dog, but she Athena needs more outdoor time and more time with her owner. She has also developed some pretty serious resource guarding over the past year, and you can't both her while she's eating or try to take something she is chewing on away from her. While resource guarding is common for malamutes and can be mitigated through consistent training and improving the dog's surroundings, I don't have the time to give her that training or the ability change her surroundings to suite her better at this point in my life. It's taken me a long time to accept that. Athena does great when meeting other dogs on walks or playing outside at the dog park, but she has not gotten along with the few other dogs she has encountered indoors over the past year. I suspect she could be trained to get along with another dog indoors without too much difficulty, but I haven't had the opportunity to try. She gets along especially well with other big northern dogs like huskies, samoyeds, and other malamutes, or very very small dogs. For someone who is looking for a beautiful, loving, cuddly malamute who is a joy to be around, and who has the space and time - and commitment - to give Athena the family she needs and deserves, she could be perfect for you. Athena is 80 pounds, spayed, up-to-date on her shots, and has a calm and inquisitive demeanor. I'm willing to drive Athena to anywhere in North America to ensure she had a good owner! This is also time sensitive so anyone willing to take her in ASAP would be much appreciated!
