Shep is a handsome golden retreiver/australian shepherd mixed breed male. He loves people and has super soft long fur. He loves to nap in the sun and run laps around his foster families yard. The veterinarian guessed him to be 4 years old, but his foster thinks he is closer to 2 because he has super clean perfect teeth and is very playful. He weighs about 52 pounds. He is being fostered in Fox Lake, IL. His foster says he just loves to be with his people, and would do best with a family that wants to include him in all their activities! He gets along great with other dogs and likes kids, but he would also do good as an only dog as he loves people so much. He does like to chase cats and small animals, and although he does not hurt them he does obsess over them a bit, so a home without small animals would be best. He is potty trained and does okay on a leash, but his family should plan to work with him more on his leash skills. He is learning to love his crate, although he can get a little protective if food is near his crate. Unfortunately because of his life of neglect before being saved by our rescuers in Texas, Shep has tested Heartworm Positive. His veterinarian has given him antibiotics and a proheart injection that lasts/treats heartworm for 6 months, which he believes will be enough to clear him of the heartworms. However, due to his current heartworm status, he cannot be adopted in the state of WI due to local laws. He can be adopted into most surrounding states. Shep is neutered, up to date on shots and microchipped, he comes with his medical records and interstate health certificate from a veterinary examination prior to leaving Texas, which certifies him to be in good condition. His adoption fee is $250. Shep's adoption fee will enable us to finance our program of readying additional dogs, puppies and kittens which we prepare, transport and adopt out in the northern United States. Our goal is to get as many homeless animals out of south Texas, where we have a severe pet overpopulation crisis. We take payments through Zelle, Venmo, PayPal, CashApp, or we can take card numbers over the phone and process them through Square. All of these methods provide a receipt. Holds are handled on a first-come, first-served basis with respect to the first person to place an exclusive hold deposit as instructed by the rescue. Once you have made the deposit, it is refundable so long as you show up to meet the dog on the agreed date. Prior notification of an intended no-show/non-delivery does not constitute showing up.
