About PUMPKIN

Adoption Fee: $450
Shar-Pei / Beagle
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

PLEASE READ BELOW, FLORIDA ADOPTIONS ONLY, ACTIVE FAMILY. Meet Pumpkin! He was rescued a few months back after he was found swimming in a canal with a broken hip and lethargic. He was hospitalized for weeks, had hip surgery and recovered. He is a young (age unknown)estimated 2-5 yrs old. Beagle-Sharpei mix weighs about 33lbs. Pumpkin is a playful boy who loves everyone he comes into contact with. He is truly thankful this holiday season! %BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%A0 General behavior: Pumpkin walks well on a leash, sniffing everything, which is typical beagle behavior. He loves to explore, which contributes to his ability to be an escape artist. He is completely house trained and will go into his crate when prompted by a treat (you might need to use his leash the first few times). Pumpkin is a great mix of playful energy and calm cuddler; he just wants to be where you are. Pumpkin enjoys his playdates with younger dogs who will roll around with him. He even plays with his kitty foster-brother. Pumpkin is gentle and loving with kitties, older children, and dogs who are older and more fragile. He loves all humans, animals, strangers; he is a real joy to have around. %BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%A0 Likes and dislikes: Pumpkin likes toys (particularly dissecting them), balls, and all humans and animals. He likes his playtime and his downtime and loves treats. Pumpkin is a healthy eater, but tends to eat more in the afternoon as opposed to the morning where he just grazes. He likes the science diet sensitive systems with some crumbled freshpet on top (what his foster sister eats because they tend to switch bowls). He is not food aggressive, toy aggressive, or any type of aggressive. He will alert you to anyone around the house or at the door. Despite Pumpkin's recovering hip (he prefers to use one back leg over another), he loves to run and if he gets out of your front door, he will need multiple people to help get him in. He likes to be chased and will run across streets, so his household will need to be cautious of him getting out. I am working on training him to get back from the door, but he will need further training. A secured fenced-in yard is a MUST. Pumpkin also does not being left alone; he is very attached to his foster mom and her close friends and family. He is placed in his crate when left alone, for his safety and his own comfort. No grooming is needed except for occasional baths, which he does not like. Pumpkin has very few dislikes aside from bathing and being left alone; he is a very sweet and happy boy. %BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%A0 Overall: Pumpkin would do best in a household with other playful dogs, cats, or older children. Anyone he is around must be trained on not letting him out the front door, he will NOT come back. He would also do best with people who work from home or are home a good deal of time, as he likes being around his people.
