About Thor

German Shorthaired Pointer mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Nervous and drooling in the shelter environment, Thor desperately needs a place to call home. Thor is a 4-year old, 49-pound male that looks like a German Short-Haired Pointer mix. He has lived at the Westfield Animal Shelter in Westfield, MA since July. When he forgets his troubles, this long, lean polka dot machine has a friendly smile and likes to play. The animal control officers who care for Thor say he is very smart. They see many dogs, so for his intelligence to stand out like this says a lot. He's also very sweet, loves to be with the staff, and has a cat-like trick of weaving in and out of their legs. He does enjoy learning things and is very attentive. When called, he comes back to them. He is neutered UTD, vetted, and microchipped. He shows no aggression. He may have some prey drive as he reportedly gets very excited when passing the cats and small animals of the shelter. Thor was surrendered with another large female as a product of divorce. However, it is highly suspected that a male abused Thor based on his fear of men. He does like the ladies and enjoys working with the female staff. Without pushing Thor too far, at this time he's gotten within 10 feet of a strange man and was fine. Though he was great with his former sibling, there are no dogs at the shelter to test him with new friends. Therefore, we suggest he be the only pet in the home. However if you have a very well-balanced dog, ask about having a doggie meet n greet to see how they get along. Whadya say? Can you welcome this sweet, smart dog into your home during this season of giving? He is very upset by shelter life, yet a great dog in a home situation.
