About Bam

Adoption Fee: $250
German Shepherd
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Bam is a very sweet boy who needs a very specific home. Bam was abused by two separate homes before landing on my porch. He's had zero foundational work so now he's a big goofy puppy that is difficult to train. He honestly seems a little brain damaged and takes extra work to get him to understand what I'm trying to train him to do. He had a major nipping problem (fairly regular with GSDs) where he'd nip at your face. The lady we got him from trained him to jump up and give kisses which as a potentially 100lb dog is not something he needs to be doing. He is terrible on a leash and I have doubts he will ever be able to walk properly on a leash given his unique quirks. Bam needs someone who has a lot of time, patience, and experience. He needs extended training on basic manners. He doesn't have any aggressive tendencies he's just rude. Bam has a knee injury that is either going to be something he needs PT for, surgery, or an understanding of the ongoing injury. It doesn't effect him. He doesn't limp and he's got plenty of strength. He's clearly a result of backyard breeding as well given that his hips are very narrow. I say this so who ever is interested knows his going to have hip dysplasia possibly earlier and more severe than his breed average. He is kennel trained and does well in a kennel. He's fine being left alone. He's mostly house trained but had a couple accidents when first getting him. I'm not sure if it was because he wasn't sure of his new environment or it was more of a territory thing. This poor guy got dumped on me. I took one look at him being skin and bones and new I couldn't let him go back with the lady that had him. Unfortunately, he's over powered both of my teenage girls sending one to urgent care for X-rays for a possible broken finger. Not broken thank goodness but she now is hesitant to try and handle him at all. Even more sad, she bonded with him most and claimed him as her dog and her responsibility. She understands though that he's too much for our family and needs, preferably, a solo male (or strong female) to go on adventures with. Once he is caught up with weight and finishes growing Bam will be a minimum of 100lbs. He's already at 70lbs but he's skin and bones from being malnourished and underfed.he's up to date with all his shots. He is not neutered but has an appt set. I do not recommend cats, he has a high probability of chasing them however I don't have a cat so I can't say for sure. Absolutely no children. I have 13 year old twin girls and a 7 year old boy. My children can handle large dogs including two rotties and a 115lb golden mix. They cannot handle Bam. He's too much dog and too excitable. He's also really hard to read and very chaotic. So if you're thinking oh my kids can handle him, they've had large dogs or even a GSD.. you're wrong. He's fine with other dogs but the amount of attention he needs must be clear. I have never lost my temper with an animal. Especially a dog I'm working with. I've lost my temper multiple times with him to the point I have to put him in his kennel and go walk around outside to cool off. I want to be very clear that he needs a lot of patience and understanding. I really think he's like an autistic dog. He needs someone who has time and experience to work with him. He is such a sweet and loving boy and would be an excellent companion to the right person or couple. Adoption fee to ensure the right person wants him.
