About Olson

Olson is a male German Shepherd. He is approximately 10 years old and weighs around 65 pounds. We rescued Olson from Texas where he had been picked up by Animal Control. Olson had been hit by a car and had crawled to a storm drain for cover. Upon examination, it was determined that Olson was actually in better shape than expected, all things considered. However, he was not able to walk and did have lacerations on his feet and knees. He also had an out of place hip. Our foster in Texas picked Olson up from the shelter and tended to his wounds for several weeks. During this time, Olson healed enough to be able to walk and get around. However, because he was depending on his opposite side due to the hip, he tore his CCL This meant he needed even more healing time. We have had Olson with us for several months in Minnesota. He is doing wonderful. Everything is healed up and he gets around great! He can even do a slow run! It was determined that due to his age and the fact that he is able to get around, hip surgery is not recommended at this time. We do have Olson on a joint supplement, but no medications are currently necessary. While Olson is somewhat unsure around new people, at home he's a laid-back, friendly guy. He does well with most dogs and was fine around cats in a previous home, but ideally he would go to a home with few other pets as Olson seems to prefer a quieter environment.
