About ELSIE

Meet ELSIE! STATS: 8 year old female Chihuahua LOCATION: Pensacola FL NEEDS: Loving home where she will not spend too much time alone. HIGHLIGHTS: Super sweet girl, housebroken! Beautiful Chihuahua Elsie is approximately 8 years old and weighs 5.4 pounds. She was found as a stray and taken to the shelter. When no owner came forward we took her in to help her find a new home. Elsie is an absolute doll! As a matter of fact her foster mom says she's perfect! She may be biased, but Elsie is a precious and loving little girl. Elsie loves to be cuddled and be near her person. She will follow her person around the house and yard. She loves to watch her foster do her stretches and will stretch with her. She is super friendly and makes friends wherever she goes. Elsie sleeps on the big bed at night, of course, she doesn't like to be too far from her person. Sometimes she cries when she's left alone so a home where she can be with somebody fairly often would be best for her. She has excellent house manners and is housebroken. Elsie gets along well with other small dogs and would be good in a home with others. Now that she is feeling better from a surgery (we will get to that in a minute) she has good energy and wants to play a bit. Elsie likes to try to eat out of the others dogs dishes, so it's best to keep an eye on her at meal times or feed her separately. Elsie is too little to be outside ever unsupervised, likely how she ended up in a shelter, and at her size she's lucky! She walks well with a leash and harness, and loves to go 'bye bye' and ride in a car. She also loves her bath! She really is a perfect companion. Now, when Elsie was found she had a mammary tumor, something that's very frequently seen in older unspayed dogs. Before she came to us the tumor was removed and sent off to pathology where it was found to be malignant. Even though the surgeon believes they got all of the tumor out, there is a possibility of reoccurrence. We have no way of knowing if it will or will not come back. What we do know is that some people will shy away from her because of that, but we hope that somebody sees how precious she is and how much joy she can bring to somebody's life, and how much joy they can bring to hers. Elsie has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, spayed, fecal tested, heartworm negative, has had a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration.
