About Horus

Adoption Fee: $100
American Staffordshire Terrier mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Horus is the sweetest dog I have ever known. Two years ago, he was rescued as a stray in Southwest Portland and found his way into both my home and my heart. Horus loves people, though he can take some time to warm up to strangers, men moreso than women who he seems to very quickly become comfortable with. He has lived with other dogs before, but due to several incidents involving off leash dogs attacking him, he has become a bit more standoffish and wary of dogs he is not familiar with. He has also lived with three cats; however I would not say he is a dog well suited for such conditions, he has a strong prey drive and while no harm ever came to the cats that he lived with, I would say he was a bit too focused on them for comfort. He has not been around children, but I would caution against it for the same reason as cats, he loves to chase, and he does not know his own strength. Horus prefers tug of war to fetch, sleeping under the covers to over top of them, and above all else: food. He is the most food motivated dog I have ever known, which has the upside of making him very easy to teach new tricks! He knows: Sit, Down, Stay, Shake, Up (Warning: he will shoot up like a rocket if you say Up), Drop, Back Up, and occasionally Spin. He loves to run and play, and is a big fan of wrestling, though I have gotten him to ease up on that a bit as he has the strength of a collegiate athlete. More than anything else, Horus wants to curl up next to the person he loves most while they pet his ears and kiss his forehead, looking forward to whatever adventures the next day will bring the two of them. I have had Horus for years now, and there is no great urgency to finding him a new home, but I have always believed it is my job to look out for and do what is going to be best for him, and though I hate to admit it, I feel that what would be best for him is someone who can spend more time and energy with him than I can. Working full time leaves Horus home much of the day on his own, and soon I will be attending law school which will only increase that alone time. His ideal home would be somewhere that he is the only pet, with a yard for him to play and run, and people who can give him the love, affection, and attention that he deserves. I love this dog with all of my heart, because above all else he tries his best every day to be a good boy and make his owner proud, even if he slips up every now and then, and I hope that out there is a person or people who can both love him as much as I do, as well as give him the life that I know he deserves.
