About Luka King

Adoption Fee: $3
German Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

It is with a heavy heart that we are needing to rehome our 5 year old German Shepherd, Luka within one week because we are moving homes and our new place does not allow animals. We have been looking to rehome him for several months and have reached out to a handful of organizations but haven't had any success. We have been wanting to find him a new home since we haven't been able to meet his needs regarding the care and attention he needs or continue his training to get him fully trained socially with other dogs and strangers outside the home. He does have lifetime training with Sit Means Sit and we have seen first hand how well he has been able to progress with consistent training. We are able to provide him with his bed, training collar, crate, 1-2 months of food and all other accessories at the time of surrender. __________ Luka: 5 year old Black and Tan, Full bred, German shepherd, male, 70lbs, neutered. Super loyal to family and loves to be loved on. We've had him since he was a puppy so he is potty trained and leash trained. He loves walks and to play fetch with a chuck-it and enjoys swimming in the river. He loves being wherever you are, always in the same room as you making sure to keep you company and safe. He has been mostly trained through Sit Means Sit so he responds best with his collar and remote. He barks at knocks at the door but we've been training him to stay in his bed until released. He's not a fan of strangers or other dogs he meets outside the home, until he gets to know them and has been around them a handful of times, then you become family. He can get worked up when approaching other dogs while on a leash. He is up to date on all his vaccines and bordetella, no tick prevention at this time, but he has had it in the past. Able to give full medical history. Earlier this year he had to undergo a skin surgery on his back leg from a freak accident which took 3 months of recovery so there is a scar there but thankfully he is completely back to normal! Unfortunately with having a kid and a second on the way, we just haven't been able to give him the attention and lifestyle he requires so we are hoping to find him a loving home who can prioritize him and navigate his anti-socialism better. The ideal family would: -have prior experience with German shepherds -ensure 2 daily walks or ball outings -ability to give him regular at-home baths (he can go to a dog cleaner but he doesn't always get along with other dogs) -understand his triggers and be able to continue working on socializing him to other people and dogs. He has lifetime training already paid for via Sit Means Sit so all you would need to do is reach out to them and get a training appointment for him to get started up again! -other dogs would be good for him as he would begin to click with them over time, however probably no cats or other small animals
