Shane was adopted at 6 months old and has spent his 7 years of life with owners who were not adequately prepared to take on the responsibility required to meet the needs of his breed. He is very playful and loves to run in large open spaces. He is leash trained, however needs constant supervision if not attached to a leash or lead or he will run off. He is very wary of females due to his abuse history. He flinches when being pet and has a tendency to attack people (regardless of his relationship establishment) out of fear. His attacks are easy to redirect, but startling nonetheless due to his size. History includes biting people (not viciously enough to break skin, but enough to be afraid of him) and he cannot be left in a fenced yard unsupervised. He is capable of clearing 8 foot fences and will chase after someone he sees on the road if they trigger his fight response. He is very dominant around the male collie that shares the house with him and is less likely to listen to commands when he is fighting other animals for the attention of his owner. He is stubborn to follow commands in general and requires lots of patience and treats to listen to direction. His ideal home would be in a rural area away from foot and vehicle traffic and other dogs, where he can run and play freely without distraction. With an experienced and compassionate owner, I believe Shane's behavior can be easily rehabilitated. He is a sweet dog who craves individual attention and affection that he is unable to receive in his current home. (This dog is not mine, I just live in the same house and am helping to rehome him.)
