Delta is a working livestock guardian looking for a new home because of wandering issues. She runs off daily, and we're worried she will get hit in the road, but the farm is large and we have been unsuccessful at keeping her contained because of the amount and type of fencing that would be required to do so that is unnecessary for livestock. She is good with our house dog (male) and most dogs in the neighborhood, except one female dog belonging to a neighbor. She will chase cats if left unsupervised. She is good with kids, but she is large and can knock them over by accident. She does well with all adults except, again, she is very large and high energy so we put her in the garage if people come to visit the farm, especially the elderly so she doesn't knock them over. She knows a few basic commands like sit and stay, is leash trained, and will get in and out of a vehicle. She is not house trained, but never poops or pees in the garage when she's put in there, even for longer periods. She is food aggressive with other animals if they try to take her food, with warning growls/nips not to hurt them just to get her point across, but is not food aggressive with humans (we made a point to take her food and give it back often as a pup). This is a positive trait for a farm dog as it means she doesn't let the sheep and chickens and house dog come take her meal without stopping them, but it's something to be aware of. Preferably, she would remain a farm dog or get rehomed to a rural home with a very large fenced in yard. It's possible she would stay on a farm property with a similar fence situation to ours if there were other trained guard dogs to show her the ropes or if the family lived on-farm, as she's a solo dog currently and longing for companionship from other dogs and humans which is mainly why she runs off to other people's houses (we don't live on-farm). A few week trail period, where she would be returned to us if it didn't work out, would be a good way to determine this.
