About Halo

Shetland Sheepdog
Age: Senior
Sex: Male

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE BIO ON THIS DOG BEFORE REQUESTING AN APPLICATION. MANY OF OUR DOGS HAVE STRICT REQUIREMENTS FOR THEIR ADOPTION. 1. Halo would do best in a home with few or no stairs. 2. Other dogs in the family need to be respective of his age. 3. He is more comfortable with women. 4. Older children only. 11-year-old male Sheltie, about 50 pounds. He is very typical of the breed: shy at first and then very loving once he gets to know you. He is a calm, sweet and very loyal boy who will love your attention - and he will let you know that by putting his head right on your leg. Halo is very food motivated; while this helps to communicate with him better, he will also need a diet to stay in shape. He is not a barker compared to many other dogs, he is quiet and prefers to lounge and laze around. Halo is friendly to other dogs but usually does not join their play. He is not aggressive to cats either. Halo is more comfortable with women and not as confident around men. He is a senior dog and because of his joints, he is not as physically active as he could be. Other than needing to lose a few pounds, most of his medical needs have been taken care of. He has had a recent dental and a plethora of senior dog testing and bloodwork. He has also had a few fatty lipomas and a benign tumor removed. He does have moderate hip dysplasia and is taking prescription Galiprant daily. He also has some urinary incontinence and occasionally submissive pees from stress. He would not enjoy a busy household, dogs that want to pounce on him or kids that fail to realize he's old and wants to be left alone. A home with a ton of stairs is also not advised. Halo is a gentle dog of a great character and deserves to spend his golden years as a companion of a lady who he will adore endlessly. Adoption contract and fee applies. All adoptable dogs can be met at adoption events hosted every weekend. For a list of scheduled events go to: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/events . Smidget Rescue is not a shelter, and dogs cannot be seen at the Rescue location. All dogs are fostered throughout the Puget Sound area and are brought to the events where they can be met by prospective adopters. Additional pictures of adoptable dogs can be seen at: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/photos_stream?tab=photos_albums. All adoptable dogs are spayed or neutered at 6 months of age or older. Puppies are adopted with a refundable spay/neuter deposit (in addition to the adoption fee) and adopters are required to get their puppy to our vet for their pre-scheduled spay-neuter appointments. APPLICATIONS CAN BE OBTAINED BY EMAIL ONLY. Adoption process includes application, meet & greet, home visit and reference check. Email Jamie at [email protected] or click on the CONTACT link on this page. PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS BEFORE SENDING. We get a fair number of incorrect emails and Jamie is not able to contact potential adopters. Notice: We do not ship dogs out of state. You must live within a three-hour radius of Seattle, WA, (such as Portland, Vancouver B.C., etc.), so we can arrange for a home visit. If your home seems like a great fit for the dog you would like to adopt, you must then drive to meet the dog at one of our weekend events or at the fosters home.
