About Nelson

Nelson is cute, quirky, and incredibly unique! We have had Nelson since he was a pup and deciding to rehome him is a decision that weighs very heavy on our hearts. We love Nelson so much and have done everything we possibly can to provide him with a good life. However, we have another dog and a toddler and it no longer feels like a safe environment for any of us. Nelson would thrive in a home with no children, no other pets, outdoor space, and an attentive pet parent. Nelson is high energy and high anxiety. He has been on Prozac for about 4 years now and it has made a huge difference! We would strongly encourage his new owner to keep that up. Nelson needs to have his hair cut several times a year. The groomer gives him lots of anxiety and we have been grooming him under mild sedation for the past 2 years. Nelson loves cuddling (on his own terms), playing fetch with a tennis ball, and going on walks. He's a great guard dog, is incredibly loyal, and somewhat cautious of new people. Nelson knows many commands and is great off leash. He does not like meeting new dogs and hates other high energy dogs. He has gotten along with several larger breed, calm dogs. Nelson often shows his fears and anxieties through aggressive behavior. Having an attentive pet owner who is aware of Nelson's triggers would help him thrive. We are VERY well versed by now, but a child and another dog are making it too difficult to keep Nelson in our family. We want to find Nelson a loving, forever home where he know he will be loved.
