About Bandit

Adoption Fee: $375
Australian Shepherd
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Bandit is available for adoption! He is being fostered in South Mississippi. Bandit is a 6 (almost 7 on Jan 31st, 2023) year old black tri purebred Australian Shepherd. He is UTD on all vaccinations, is neutered, microchipped, and has finished heartworm treatment. He is on monthly heartworm and flea/tick preventative. He had surgery in August to remove a rectal polyp and the biopsy results came back as cancerous. The polyp was completely removed, but the cancer has a chance of recurring. However, he has been an absolute trooper through everything and has lots of life left! Bandit takes some time to get used to people, more specifically woman. He absolutely adores men though. His foster mom has worked very hard at earning his trust over the last couple of months and has seen him improve leaps and bounds from when he was first brought into ASF. All he wants is love and attention. Head rubs and fetch (more like keep away currently due to him still learning the bring it command) are all he needs too make him happy. However, he doesn't care much for cuddling and prefers attention on his own terms. Bandit was an outside dog most of his life and never had much socialization with many people or animals. However, he was brought into his foster home with 5 other dogs of varying sizes and he didn't blink an eye. He gets along with every single one and has even tried to play with them more and more as time goes on! He has been to the dog park and enjoyed it thoroughly. He has not been tested with cats, but does not seem to have a high prey drive (if any, it is very little). He uses a kennel during meal time and when his foster parents leave for longer periods of time. However, he does not need a kennel, it just provides him his own space to relax in, which he likes. He is fully housebroken! He has not been around children very much, just the occasional kid at the dog park or out and about. Due to him being more selective of his people, he would benefit from a family with kids 12 or older with experience in dealing with dogs. He does not care for anyone to be in his face. Bandit is a protective dog. He has some resource guarding towards his personal space, food, and toys. His foster mom feeds him from her hand often to get that one-on-one connection and to help with breaking some of his habits. He loves to carry around toys and doesn't like when the other dogs try to take his toys away from him. However, he has never had a negative reaction to them and just gives a quick growl to tell them no. Bandit is a very smart boy and can learn a lot with the right family who is willing to put in the effort. He already knows sit, shake/paw, lay down, and kennel. What Bandit needs: -an experienced handler -a kennel or space of his own -a home with a yard -someone committed to training -patience and lots of love A meet and greet with potential adopters and their dogs, if any, would be beneficial for us to make sure of a good fit. He is a goofy boy that deserves the world and a furever place to call home.
