About Jake

Born in February 2022 Jake is an 8-month-old neutered and chipped half Blue Heeler and half Husky. Jake is a beautiful dog. He has the Heeler mark on the forehead. But has dominant black and white all over with black spots, especially on the legs. His fur is coming out with more Heeler colors but will be a mix. His fur is Heeler short but soft. Jake has been staying outside during the day and in the house at night. At night he has been sleeping on his bed or going in his crate in the kitchen. Recently just started leaving him out all night. When he was able to run free he would lie right in front of the door when we are in the house and on the steps when we are gone. In the morning we usually spend time getting belly rubs when in the house. He takes his time getting up and can hold his bladder for a long time. He is house-trained. Outside he likes to chew on his hard bone with me holding it. He is a heavy chewer so I get strong long-lasting chews. Almost daily we will either throw his frisbees, toss the balls or do jumps or agility turns with his rope. His favorite toys are the toys that squeak inside and outside the house. He also knows some tricks like sit, stay, leave it, lay down, drop it (with ball) Also likes trade - when he has a toy and I have a treat. I say trade and he drops the toy and I give him a treat. He can-give me 5 but it looks like a handshake. He loves to explore the yard and it is fenced in. If he does not come I say goodbye and walk away and he follows. When it was really hot I would fill his kiddy pool with water. He loves trying to eat the water coming from the spray hose. We have taken him to the creek and he loves it. He also loves the woods, parks, and car rides. My husband takes him for walks and he enjoys it very much. We have leash, collar, shots, and rabies with papers, neutered and chipped with papers. His favorite toys are frisbees, balls, and squeak toys. They have to be heavy chewer ones. Doggie poop bags. Toys and treats. Crate and outside house. Recently my parents moved here. They are older. Jake loves to jump up on people not in a mean way but he is too strong and has not learned to stop jumping and nipping. They also have a couple of Chihuahuas. Both are small and one is frail. Jake wants to play with them but he doesn't know his strength. We know training and time and patience help but because of these circumstances, it has put a crimp on the time we spend with Jake. Jake had the run of the yard (it is nearly one acre and fenced in). We now have to tie him up more than usual. He loves dogs. When we dog-sat a poodle mix he fell in love with her and followed her everywhere. He needs a place where he has the freedom to explore and run and be in the company of dogs and/or humans. We socialized him early so he love people and dogs and wants to be around them. We live in Greenville, SC. We love Jake very much and want him to go to a home that will take care of him and take care of his Heeler needs and love him.
