About Carl

Carl is a fun loving 4yr old pit mix. He loves to play with his toys and cuddle with you. WE have had Carl for two months and have grown to love him, but we also know that our family dynamics do not work well with a busy household. We do not want to return him to the animal shelter as his chances are slim and would like for him to have a chance to be successful. Known Obedience Skills: sit, shake, sit for food bowl and wait. We have been working on stay, down (lay down), off, fetch and leash walking (he does best when the leash is short). Carl is crate trained and goes to his 'bed' when he is led to the crate and commanded to go to his bed. Known Likes/Preferences: Carl has lots of energy and is playful with us, our other dog and he can also entertain himself with toys as well. He likes to fetch lacrosse balls and chew his chew toys. He can play gently but can get overaroused in play. Carl loves to cuddle, play and jump on our trampoline, get belly rubs and be brushed. He responds well to positive reinforcement and shows a strong desire to please his humans. Known Dislikes: Carl is not good with cats. Behavioral Concerns: When Carl is over-aroused, he may begin jumping, grabbing and mouthing. He does not break skin. Carl can become defensive over his food bowl, some toys and random objects, which he may pick up. While in possession of these things, he may bare teeth and growl if you approach him. If Carl has taken one of these objects to his crate, you cannot approach the crate without eliciting the barring teeth/growling behaviors. Carl can be successfully redirected to a different object thus abandoning the coveted object if you offer him a different toy, treat etc. from a distance. Carl has learned to sit/wait for his food bowl and does very well with that. Just do not touch him or hover near the bowl while he is eating. This decision to return Carl has not been easy for our family. We have grown to love this goofball. Overall, he is a great dog and will make a great addition to the right family that can provide him with the attention and guidance that he needs.
