Please note that we will ask for a vet reference. Name: Justice Age: approx. 2.5 years Breed: Pit Bull Terrier Mix, medium approx. 50# Sex: Female, spayed Location: Durham County, NC VET INFORMATION: Justice is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. Her last heartworm test in 2020 was negative, and she is on preventatives. After being brought into rescue at three months old, her eyes were so infected that they had to be removed. Justice has skin allergies that have led to recurrent ear infections. She gets cytopoint injections and she takes oral apoquel. The exact cause of her allergies is unknown, but they've been present since her owners adopted her at six months of age. A lamb based diet (a 'novel protein') seems to be working the best to help her. Her skin redness still flares up some, but her ear infections have been kept at bay since the switch. For more information, please see: https://www.apoquel.com/ and https://www.zoetispetcare.com/products/cytopoint. When going to the vet's office, she does much better and has less stress when she has previsit medication to calm her. OWNER INFORMATION: Justice has been with her owners since she was about six months old. They are seeking a new home for her because they have two young children and two other dogs, and Justice does not do well with any of them. Because of her energy level, Justice would do best in a home without children or other pets. Justice is an indoor dog who is crated. She is housebroken and leash trained. Justice knows the cue for sit. While she is an outgoing girl, she can be shy at times. However, she is generally good with both men and women. Justice is a very high energy girl who would require a new family that has the time to spend with her to channel her energy into positive and fun activities. Justice adapts well and quickly to new situations since she has been blind nearly her entire life. She pretty much learns the layout of a room after being in it once. Justice does startle easily and has what her owners call a 'play growl' that sounds intimidating, but it's just play. She can also be scared sometimes if she doesn't recognize who is with her (like when they have had pet sitters), and she has growled in those situations. As far as other dogs, she will jump on them right away. Justice doesn't seem to know how to initiate new social contact with a dog by sniffing each other, so they generally don't like her, but she is just overly excited. When her owners' young son attempted to step over Justice when she was tying at the bottom of the stairs, he startled her and she snapped at the child but did not make contact. Justice also snapped at one of her owners when her owner attempted to move her dog bowl when she was eating from it (possessive over food), and when her owner bumped into her crate when she was near it (possessive over her 'territory'). Justice has a strong chewing instinct which could be considered destructive behavior. Justice will chew and/or ingest pretty much anything. She has destroyed five dog beds made of various materials, as well as blankets and towels, so her owners are unable to put any fabric in her crate with her for safety reasons since she ingests the fabric after she rips it apart. The only non-edible toy she's been able to have safely is tennis balls because she rips them but does not eat them. Other toys, even those advertised as 'indestructible', are torn apart in seconds to minutes. As far as edible or natural chews, the longest lasting types her owners have found are bully sticks (can last 10+ minutes sometimes), split elk horns (can last a day or two), and bull horns (last several days to a week) that they put peanut butter inside of. Justice does not get rawhide for safety reasons. Her owners typically spend upwards of $100/month on chews because she needs that chew stimulation and outlet. HER OWNERS WOULD LIKE YOU TO KNOW: 'We have been working since March of this year to get her placed somewhere. We refuse to take her to a kill shelter since we know the high likelihood of her being euthanized, not to mention that would be a terrifying experience for her as a blind dog. That being said, it has been extremely difficult continuing to keep her at our home since we have to crate her much more often than we would like because of not being able to have her around our kids. We are hoping to be able to help find her the perfect home!' Does anyone have room for beautiful Justice?
