About Mable

Feist mix
Age: Senior
Sex: Female

I found Mable sleeping in a shopping cart at my local food lion on October 14th. Emaciated and anemic from a severe infestation of fleas. The staff informed me she had been unceremoniously dumped out of a car window and left to fend for herself. She's an older girl, but after getting rid of her fleas and regular meals (she has SEVERE tooth decay and will need a dental asap, it is possible that she may need all of them pulled, but she readily eats canned food,) she has perked up and really started to show her personality. I cannot say enough good things about this dog, she impresses and endears herself to me every day. She barks around 8am... She wants a quick walk (jumping and dancing excitedly while being leashed) where she does all of her business and heads promptly back to the door for breakfast. After that she naps and wanders the house while I'm at work. She likes dinner around five, gets a few more potty breaks afterward (she is only vocal when she needs to go outside or she's hungry, but clearly seems to have previously had a fairly regular schedule.) She sleeps through the night, and in nearly a week has had not a single accident despite everything she's been through. She's extremely friendly, but not needy, and is content hanging around (she loves being under a blanket and may let you know if she needs help getting covered up.) I believe she is spayed, she appears to have a small green tattoo on her belly and does not appear to have had puppies, but unfortunately given the circumstances I am admittedly guessing. She likes car rides and the occasional bite of Colby jack cheese. She is honestly a joy to have around, and if I were in a financial position to take care of her I would keep her in an instant. I have three dogs already (which all came to me by somewhat similar circumstances,) and I don't feel that I can provide the level of care the poor girl deserves. I haven't introduced her to my dogs so I cannot say how she tolerates other dogs or cats. She is an extremely calm dog and I feel would likely have no problems, but given her age she may not be extremely well suited to a home with very small children. She's shown absolutely no aggression, but sometimes little ones have more energy than an old dog is prepared for. I know that she could make a great companion, she's definitely on up there in years, but she's still got a lot of love to give and is absolutely the most laid back, 'chill' sort of dog I've ever met. If you're interested, it would like more information or pictures, please feel free to contact me. I am not looking for a rehoming fee, but I would like a vet reference from potential adopters if possible. Her dental issues desperately need to be addressed as they can lead to major health problems and I'm sure they have to be painful even if she doesn't show it. Thank you for taking the time to read this, I apologize for the length of her ad, but she's a special girl and she's been through quite a bit, I want to do everything I can to make sure she finds the right place to spend her golden years. I am admittedly hard to reach by phone, but will respond to texts or emails as quickly as possible. Thank you for taking the time to listen to Mable's story.%BD%9D%A4%BD%BD%8F
