About Gracie

Gracie was rescued from Animal Control about 4 months ago. She is a 35-pound female Australian Cattle Dog mix, approximately 16 months old. She is spayed and has been treated for heartworms. She appears to have made a full recovery! She is incredibly intelligent, very sweet, devoted, high energy, and athletic. She loves fetch, puzzle toys, and patrolling the back yard and garden. She does well in the car and tugs a bit on the leash. She has learned to co-exist peacefully with our cat (not sure how she would do with other cats), but there's continued friction between our older terrier and her. At the dog park and at 'doggie daycare,' she gets along well with other dogs, but at home she may see her owner as a resource that needs guarding. She does better with dogs her size and larger, but I have seen her be friendly and respectful of smaller dogs at doggie daycare, just not at home, unfortunately. I have not seen her interact with children, but my guess is that she would not be good around young kids, because she's very strong for her size and could knock them over while playing. She's quite athletic, and enjoys the agility stations at the dog park, although she has not received real agility training. She's shown a tendency to 'herd,' but because she was a stray, we don't have information about whether she was previously in a 'working dog' environment. We do know that she needs someone who is more physically active than we are, as she will require consistent exercise and mental stimulation! I honestly fell in love with Gracie at first sight, and I believe the right owner will too. I am willing to travel to get her to the right person. She will make a loyal, devoted companion.
