About Dexter

This decision is breaking my heart, but i feel it's best for Dexter and for my son. Dexter is 6 years old (born February 16th). Things he Loves are: playing fetch, going for walks, playing with any toy and anyone, meeting new people, playing with his dog sister and brother. Things he does not like: loud noises of any kind, having his nails trimmed, bath time, car rides, being crated. Dexter has always been a very quirky dog, I've had him since he was 8 weeks old. He is reactive to certain things like the sound of a garbage bag being opened, someone sneezing, or people having pysichal anything (hugging, kissing, me holding my toddler, etc). He isn't aggressive reactive to these things, he just barks and jumps, a lot, when they occur. He does have slight separation anxiety as well. My reason for rehoming him is simple. Dexter is slightly aggressive when it comes to my 1 and a half year old son. I don't know that is always actual aggression, I feel that sometimes it is more of an anxious response. Like, he will try to play with my son at times, but other times it's clear that he means him harm. Dexter has never shown aggression before this/small children. He displays all of a normal herding breeds behavior, he has a strong herding instinct and that applies with older children. I've had 3 trainers work with him and unfortunately its never made a difference. So these days, Dexter is usually confined to either the kitchen or the hallway and bedrooms behind a baby gate and doesn't get to spend time in the family room with us anymore because of how he acts around my son. I really really don't want to do this. Dexter is my family. I even named my son after him. But his quality of life is no longer good and I cannot change that without risking my sons safety or rehoming him. I love my dog, and this is literally going to rip a hole in my soul but I have no other options. I would be happy to answer any questions anyone has about him. Thank you for reading.
