I have a blue heeler pup that seems to be either deaf or hard of hearing. He was a mistake litter and my husband got him to save him from going to the pound. After bringing him home we realized he wasn't learning his name or acknowledging sounds except really loud sounds. He is 11 months old and as much as I hate to give him up I am not able to take care of him. We have two small dogs, one older one, a cat and three girls, two are around 9 and one is a teenager. He tries to play with them, but since not being able to hear he gets a little to ruff sometimes and I am afraid he is going to hurt one of them. I am at a complete loss on what to do with him or how to train him. He is smart if you can get his attention but I have no clue how to get his attention. He has learned to sit, lay, shake and high five. I have had dogs all my life but have never worked with a deaf one. I have always had my dogs from a puppy till death and have never not been able to handle one. So when we came to the decision that we have I knew I wanted to find someone that could understand his needs. Thank you in advance for any help!
