About Copper

Looking to rehome our Black and Tan Coonhound named Copper. We have to find him a new home because our property is not equipped to keep him and our landlord is requiring us to get rid of him. He is a great dog and really hate to see him go, but he is just not a good fit for our current situation. He would be a great hunting dog for someone looking for a new hunting companion. Pros: He is very friendly to all men, women, and children. Our kids can take food and treats from his mouth and he shows no aggression. He doesn't show aggression toward people unless they are the mailman or someone ringing the doorbell. He's very protective of his home. Even then, once the person enters the home he is very friendly. He loves other dogs, big and small. He is very mild mannered and loves loaf around when it's time to relax. Cons: He is over weight right now, but could be worked back into shape with a better diet and more activity. He has a strong prey drive towards cats and other small animals. We believe he was trained for raccoon hunting before we adopted. For that reason we think someone with hunting background would be a great fit for Copper. He loves to escape and roam the neighborhood. You will need a very secure yard with a fence for him. He is a counter surfer and loves to take people food off the table when no one is looking.
