About Max

Lab mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Meet Max! You know how some humans prefer dogs over their fellow man? Well, he prefers humans over his fellow canines. If you can deal with that one personality issue, then please see if this really sweet boy is the right match for you! Max is a 7-year old, 55-pound male lab/hound/ridgeback mix (as best we can tell) located in Quincy, MA. After being surrendered in September 2021, Max has been in a foster home waiting for his adopter ever since. The foster can no longer keep him, so now would be the perfect time to find his forever home. For the entire time in foster care, Max never wavered from being a loving and wonderful dog. His favorite toys are cat toys. Tennis balls don't interest him too much, but his foster mom taught him a game and if he brings the ball back to her he gets kisses and hugs and treats. Otherwise, he enjoys antlers and the occasional bully sticks to chew. He's a rock star in the affection department. He loves humans and makes us feel special. Max is an excellent traveler! He drove with his foster mom all the way to Florida and back. He enjoyed every minute of it in the car and in hotels. He even sniffed out a litter of kittens under a shed at one of their pit stops and gave them some loving whimpers and kisses. He was free to roam the house at their destination site and got along great with the resident male cat. Max likes walks and games of catch but he doesn't require lots of exercise. Once a week he joins a pack walk with a trainer who leads the way. Max also earns his keep by letting you know if there's an intruder, but he's not the kind that goes ballistic whenever he sees someone or something out the window. For the most part, Max is an executive couch potato. He developed his napping skills by living with a cat. Though he's very dog selective, Max enjoys the company of felines and would enjoy a purring sibling (though not required). Max needs to be your only pet because he's been the instigator of a few dog fights. To avoid future altercations, Max will need a 4-5 foot fenced-in yard, preferably a privacy fence, and continue wearing a muzzle and harness on walks (which he does incredibly well with). He has a chain link fence now but goes cuckoo when he sees other dogs near his turf. Max's golden ticket would be a place that doesn't have much dog traffic. Max is interested in little humans, but has limited experience with them. He recently showered his foster mom's nieces (4 and 7) with kisses and wags at Christmas, because they were kind and gentle with him. He has never bitten a person, and even though dogs who bite other dogs normally do not bite humans, we suggest he not live with kids under 14 years old. If you love drive-by hugs and enthusiastic head-tilts, and don't mind that he's not good with other dogs, you will adore this loving boy and master snuggler. Please remember! No other dogs, no kids under 14, no apartments or busy neighborhoods, experience with dogs. Please apply to adopt Max at https://bit.ly/ARK-Application # ARKforMax #JustSaveThem
