About Archie

Boxer mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Meet Archie! He's a big boy, with an even bigger personality! He'll keep you amused with zoomies, singing, butt wiggles, and goofy head tilts. Archie is a curious (if not a bit nosey), sweet, and smart 7-year old, 80-pound male from Fitchburg, MA. He appears to be a super mutt of bully breeds, boxer, and your guess is as good as ours! He likes walks, car rides, snuggles, and has short bursts of energy, followed by long naps. Archie has been an awesome dog since being adopted 2 years ago, but it turns out he is too overzealous around small children. Since his pet parents have a small grandchild that spends a lot of time with them, ARK is helping his owners find Archie the perfect match! Archie is a big cuddle bug, and he very much likes to curl up on your lap. He likes to be by your side and help with whatever task you are doing. He likes to follow his person around, too. He loves back rubs and neck scratches, and he will gladly roll over for belly pats. He enjoys learning, and because he is very treat- motivated, he quickly picks up on basic commands. He entertains himself with chew toys and all sorts of balls. His favorite games are chase, tug, and fetch. He enjoys having a schedule and will let you know if dinner is late! Archie is crate trained and will go in when asked. He is fed in his crate and will sleep in his crate. However, he is allowed to have free range when left home alone because he is not destructive. Archie gets very excited when meeting new people but forgets that he's so big! Since he is a jumpy greeter and gets startled when touched while sleeping, he is not suited for a home with small children or frequent child visitors. Archie would do best as an only dog because he is iffy with other canines. He currently has a female sibling that he does great with, but he does not like male dogs. It's possible he could have a smaller-sized sister if given proper introductions and time to get to know each other. A fenced yard is highly preferable, no apartments. As much as he loves rubs and cuddles, the moment he suspects you are trying to trim his nails, brush his teeth, clean his ears, or examine something on him, he used to head for the hills. He's much better now, but you should know that it will likely take time and patience to earn his trust for you to handle him in these ways. To help him overcome some behavioral challenges, Archie needs a strong, confident handler with large dog experience, who is also loving, kind, gentle, and patient. He reacts to strangers and other four-legged animals. He is also easily overstimulated and doesn't know how to manage the excitement. (He would benefit from meeting his adopter multiple times.) Archie really is a good boy! All he wants is to be the center of your world. He is neutered, microchipped, and UTD on his annual vet check, shots, and preventatives. Archie comes with his medical records, crate, beds, toys, a bag of his food, treats, 6 months of heartworm, his outdoor hammock, leash, collar, harness, seat belt, and training tools.
