Please read the bio in full for answers to your questions. In the event you have a question that is not covered in the bio, please email [email protected]. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/. Please note that because all of our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be about an hour of Wilmington, DE in order for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in person home visit. Cara is an approximately 12yr old poodle mix brought to a shelter as a stray that found herself at risk of euthanasia and urgently needed a rescue group to save her. SDHH quickly scooped her up, took her to foster care, and provided immediate medical care. She had an infected and cancerous eye as well as limited vision in her remaining eye. She had to have her cancerous eye removed. In addition, she was in need of a spay, mammary tumors removal as well as a dental for horribly diseased teeth. All of these procedures were completed and physical and social healing began. Medically, she has completely recovered from eye removal and most of her teeth are gone. Her mammary tumors were thankfully benign. Cara is considered a special needs adoption as she has a small amount of fluid collected in the chest area that is not painful and therefore will need to be monitored. She will always need help with any stairs as her vision is limited and she has difficulty with depth perception. Cara is a gentle gal who adores lap time. She gets along with big, small, male and female pack members. She eats well and is working on potty training- she is reliable if on a schedule. She sleeps all night in a bed next to her foster human. Could you be the person she curls up to next?
