About Hermione

Adoption Fee: $200
Australian Shepherd
Age: Young Puppy
Sex: Female

Meet Hermione ? HER BACKGROUND ? A few months ago we rescued three special needs puppies from an accidental breeding situation in Arkansas. The family truly loved these pups and wanted the very best for them. Harry & Ron found their families but Hermione is the last of the three to find her home. It's not for lack of people wanting to adopt her, honestly. It's that she wasn't quite ready for adoption after her first foster to adopt experience. ? INITIAL EXPERIENCE W/ HTAR ? When I first met Hermione she was a complete sweetheart. Her brothers were rowdy and wild and she was the calmness in their chaos. She soon went to a foster-to-adopt home that we felt was perfect. They had experience with special needs, having one deaf Aussie currently. They loved her and were ready to adopt. Sadly when I sent over the contract things went downhill. They decided to not continue her adoption because our contract states one cannot use 'prong collars' on dogs that are adopted from HTAR. This is a touchy subject, but it's something I'm not willing to be flexible with. I could have edited our contract, but using a prong collar for a deaf mini Aussie puppy is something I wasn't comfortable with. No hate to the family whatsoever, It was a good learning lesson for me. I'm happy they were honest with us so we could find the best home for her needs. ? BACK WITH HTAR ? When I got Hermione back she was honestly not the same. She was having accidents on my couch, struggling with severe separation anxiety and was seemingly overstimulated. The first day I got her back she showed signs of both food and toy resource guarding with our dogs, which was new for us to experience with her. I touched base with a previous foster of hers, Tina, to discuss her new behaviors. She confirmed with me none of that was a problem prior to leaving her home for her foster to adopt home. ? MAKING PROGRESS AGAIN! ? For the past month Tina and I have both been fostering Hermione and she has made remarkable progress. She does well sharing her toys but can still show signs of resource guarding her food. Therefore, she eats her meals in a crate to avoid any conflict. She loves to snuggle and be close to her humans. She hasn't had accidents at Tina's, besides one in her crate when her mom accidentally overslept. She LOVES to play with other dogs, especially aussie puppies! She does well with a consistent routine and physical and mental exercise. Hermione is a special case, she will require a patient, understanding and loving family.
