About D'artagnan

Dart is a sweet pup, about 1.5 years old, neutered, house- and crate-trained. Adopted from a rescue in CO in January 2021 when he was approximately 8 weeks old. Birthday guess: November 2020. He can tell you when he needs to go outside by standing at the door and he spins around. Barks some if he needs to go out. Dart likes to play with ropes with adults and chew bones. As long as he has something to chew he is content. He does not chew things that he shouldn't. When he is outside he barks at everything. Dart loves to snuggle his humans as long as they are still. He likes to burrow in his blankets in his kennel. He likes to be in his kennel even while it is open, as if it is a 'safe space' for him to feel calm. Dart needs a calm home without young children or other dogs. He is aggressive toward dogs in all settings we have tried (walking, meeting through a fence, meeting on leash, dogs walking past us, etc.). Dart loves our older dog and our older children (over 7 years old), but he does not like other dogs or small children. We think he is scared of them. He barks and growls, but also backs away. He is scared of a lot of things, wind, rain, most sounds, etc. He is not food aggressive. We do feed him separately because we don't want him to eat our other dog's food. He is aggressive toward other dogs and squirrels. I don't think he would be okay with a cat because of how he acts. He is aggressive toward toddlers and young children. He is also sometimes aggressive when scared. He will sometimes growl, bare his teeth, and sometimes lunge when he is scared. During a storm recently I tried to let him out of his kennel and he did this to me and would not come out of his kennel. He sleeps in a kennel at night and is kenneled while we are out of the house. He's never been alone during the day longer than 4 hours.
