About Kelly

Adoption Fee: $200
Rat Terrier mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

Kelly is a lively 7-year-old rat terrier/Chihuahua mix. She is smart and adventurous, trains easily, and loves to play with her squeaky toys! Kelly likes taking leisurely walks where she can sniff and poke about, but she can keep up the pace on a hike as well. She does take 'Stranger Danger' warnings quite seriously, however, particularly when she is on a leash. This fearfulness prompts her to react by barking and lunging when meeting both humans and dogs. Kelly's adopter will need to understand her leash reactivity and be willing to accommodate her need for space and help her to overcome this fear. Back home with the people she loves, 13-lb. Kelly is an affectionate snuggler and enjoys a good belly rub. As many ratties do, she likes to burrow under the bed covers at night. She is completely house-trained and well-mannered in the home. She would prefer a fenced yard, where she can chase the squirrels and sunbathe on warm days. Kelly has always been an only dog and really would prefer to keep it that way. She doesn't have much experience being around other dogs and might struggle with a doggy sibling. Dog-savvy cats are cool though, if properly introduced, and she peacefully coexists with a couple in her current home. She seems to prefer women to men, so any men in her new home should be aware that earning her trust may take longer than usual. Due to her dislike of meeting strangers, she needs a relatively quiet home without a lot of visitors coming and going; thus a single person or couple without children would be the best fit for Kelly. She's an 'all I need is you' kind of dog, and she's hoping to find a person who feels exactly the same way!
