Introducing CRICKET! 9 year old female Chihuahua LOCATION: Pensacola FL NEEDS: Calm home, no kids. Another dog in the home preferred or someone who works from home or is retired. HIGHLIGHTS: Friendly active senior, and a true lap dog! Cricket is a sweet and sassy 9 year old, 4.78 pound Chihuahua who came to us with another dog after the sudden death of their owner. They were taken to a shelter, and we were happy to help them get out of there! At first we thought they were bonded, but it didn't take us too long to realize that they are not at all. The little boy bugged Cricket a little too much, and where she would prefer more space and peace and quiet, he is still in his puppy stage! We separated them to see how they would do and they both are getting along fine without each other. In many ways Cricket is an old soul. She is generally quiet and well behaved. She loves to be petted, and being near her person, and she also likes her space and is perfectly content to snuggle up on a dog bed by herself. Cricket has a funny little sassy side and she will play growl at you and then flop over on her back for belly rubs, waving her little feet up in the air for attention. She also likes to be carried everywhere like the princess she is! Cricket had a couple of accidents when she first got to her foster home but has been good since then, we would say that she is mostly housebroken but needs a little bit more work with a solid routine and positive reinforcement. Cricket can be a climber and is very resourceful if she wants to get into another room and a baby gate is in the way! She will figure out how to get over it in a matter of time. A fenced yard is recommended because of her small size. Cricket is good with other small dogs, although we don't recommend very bouncy, active ones. We think she would be happiest in a home with a furry buddy. She should not go to a home with kids. We have not seen her around cats, but based on her personality, we don't think she would have any problem with one. At night she likes to snuggle up in the middle of the big bed with her foster family and their dogs. Cricket has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, fecal tested, heartworm negative, has had a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. Cricket is scheduled for her spay and a dental next week. Both of the procedures will be done at one of our vets and are covered by the rescue.
