About Pony

Thanks!*************** Yes, Pony is one adorable little guy, just look a that little face, and those strawberry blonde ringlets of his coat, he certainly looks precious!! And actually he is...BUT....Pony will need a very dog savvy and hopefully previous Lhasa Apso owner. Lhasa's are not for everyone, they are typically very, very head strong dogs that prefer to get their own way, and if they don't get what they want, they can be quite surly(growling, snapping...nasty little characters!) So-please read fully before responding because he is too cute! Pony had a rough start in life, maybe he had some great puppy moments, who knows. But, his family had moved out of their house and left him alone, totally abandoned in an empty house. We do not know how long he was there when Animal Control rescued him, but he had time to get filthy and matted, he was a mess. He was pretty friendly upon intake, but did nip the person microchipping him(between shoulder blades). They did not realize he had an abscess on his back that hurt him. It has since healed and is more of a skin tag/mole. But, better times were to come and he was transferred to our rescue and has been settling into his foster home. We call this little goof 'Pony' because he makes so much noise when he trots around the house, he does sound like a little horse. Pony has a funky little prance to his step, he always seems so happy to just be alive and awake and ready for a new day. Pony is a joyful little guy, loves running around the yard and playing with the other dogs. He is doing fine now, but he is the type dog to push his agenda on everyone, dog or human-it is just the nature of the Lhasa. Once he understands his place, life if much simpler for him, and the rest of us! Pony is truly a great little dog, he is housebroken, doesn't chew, is not much of a barker, seeks attention, loves his toys and going for walks--he is awesome. BUT--he is NOT gong to placed into a home with small kids or someone that is not a very strong pack leader type person that will be the alpha person he needs. Although Pony is a hard headed little dog, the good news is he listens well. He is still a puppy, just over a year old. But, he also was neglected and missed out on some important training at a young age. So, he needs a strong, confident person/family that will continue to guide him, perhaps even take him to training classes so he understands his position in the family, and his family will learn more about Pony's needs and help develop a better understanding for all. Pony loves with all of his heart once he gets to know you and feels safe, after what he has been through we can't blame him for his caution. He is fairly easily handled by the people he knows now, but it will take time with his new family to get to that point, he is not a super cuddly type guy, he likes to be petted and played with, but not the cuddly/kissy type of guy...some of us just aren't-maybe others can relate-lol? Pony will go home with plenty of supplies, food, toys, bed, collar and leash, he is also fully vetted and chipped. His adoption fee is $400. Please email Kristine at [email protected].
