About Gracie

We rescued Gracie last month from our local shelter. They originally found her in July 2022 she was severely malnourished and had recently had puppies. However, her puppies weren't with her. She is only a year old. She is great playing with other big dogs her size but doesn't like when smaller dogs tell her to 'back off.' This causes her to be scared and assert her dominance over them by growling and pinning them down. She has done this to our small dog and didn't hurt her but I don't feel I can trust her with our other small dog. The trainer said at this point it is instinct and she cannot be trained to react a different way. I also am unsure if her past with cats because she is very reactive to small animals such as squirrels and bikes and kids running. She just wants to play but I cannot let her do this most of the time with strangers for obvious reasons. We have cats at home and are fostering some kittens and it has gotten a bit stressful to keep them all separated all the time. I've trained her to her on a leash, sit, lay down, leave it, fetch, stay. She knew nothing when we got her from the shelter last month. She is very smart and trainable. It breaks my heart to even think about re-homing her. I've been training her daily for 1 month since we got her and she is apart of our family. But the unknown about other animals does worry me. The person who wants her needs to be a good leader for her and needs to exercise her daily. To be safe I wouldn't recommend her to be in a multiple pet home, rather she is your only pet. This would ensure the safest situation for her temperament since she was not socialized at an early age and I have no idea her background with her being so skinny and having puppies before the age of 1.
